World record for fastest three consecutive heats in a race, 2:12, 2:12 3/4 and 2:12 to high wheels. World record in 1892 and the queen of trotting in the early 1890ies. Nancy Hanks was named after Abraham Lincoln's mother. Born in Kentucky and showed potential early with 2:24 1/2 at 3 and 2:14 1/4 at 4 years of age. J. Malcom Forbes paid a whopping $41,000 for her and sent her to trainer Budd Doble who followed her through multiple world records, and at the end a fantastic 2:04 in Terre Haute, Indiana on September 28, 1892. After her racing career she became a a broodmare at Forbes' farm and had seven foals. Forbes died already at 57, and Nancy Hanks was sold back to Kentucky where she dies in 1915 at the age of 29.
